Leyla Mostafavi is an Associate in Minami Tamaki LLP’s Immigration and Nationality Law Practice Group. She is a licensed attorney in both Canada and California and brings extensive experience in litigation and startups to advocate on behalf of clients. Leyla began her law career at a large litigation firm in Toronto.

Leyla is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA), and currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Iranian American Bar Association NorCal Chapter (IABA). She is currently a regular volunteer with citizenship clinics in the Bay Area. In addition to her legal expertise, Leyla has also worked as a communications director for a tech startup in Silicon Valley.

She received her J.D. from the University of Ottawa, her M.S.c. degree from the London School of Economics, her LL.M. degree in International Law from the University of California, Berkeley, and her Bachelor’s degree from the University of Toronto.

At Berkeley, she was a volunteer with the International Refugee Assistance Project (IRAP). She was also the recipient of the International Jurists Award and worked for Law Help Ontario, which provides legal services to underserved communities.

Leyla has a deep appreciation for the cultural diversity that results from the immigration process. Her passion for immigration and refugee law stems from her own personal experience of being an immigrant and having to navigate various legal systems while living in the Middle East, United Kingdom, Canada, and now the United States
